Quantum of Solace

A shaky and very rushed script, but bloody good action. The chase scenes are mostly spectacular, but the ending, particularly the 'final battle' feels a bit unfinished.

Of course, Quantum is a sequel to Casino Royale, with the start of this film mere minutes after the end of the previous one.

What I liked a lot is that were the references to other Bond stories which are not explained, left for the viewer to figure out. Royale's background is not dwelt upon and the return of CIA agent Leiter (with Solace being the character's ninth movie) is not introduced at all.

Craig is a more than excellent Bond. I think I now like him more even than Connery.

Living In Oblivion: The 80's Greatest Hits, Vol. 1

Being an 80s kid, this is almost pure nostalgia. The tracks are good, but considering licensing issues and, I'm sure, fees demanded by artists, studios or labels, some of the tracks on the album feel out of place.

There's Too Shy by Kajagoogoo, Talk Talk by, you've guessed it, 19 by Paul Hardcastle, She's Blinded Me With Science by Thomas Dolby, but also (Get A) Grip (On Yourself) by The Stranglers as well as a few other less successful hits by major 80s artists.

As a whole, it's still a very enjoyable album, mostly because it's such a sign of the times. But it could have been better.
There's 5 volumes in this series.

Body of Lies

Wanted to watch Quantum of Solace, but that is only coming out here next week.

Body of Lies is enjoyable as long as it lasts. Russel Crowe's accent sounds fake and DiCaprio has done better. The deus ex machina which saves DiCaprio's life was uncalled for.
As a whole, though, the action, the cinematography and the story are entertaining enough. A bit like a poor man's Syriana.

The Dutch actress Carice van Houten (Minoes) played DiCaprio's wife, but all her scenes ended up on the cutting room floor.

Iron Maiden - Brave New World

The obvious reference is to the Aldous Huxley book. But that's far from original. Wikipedia lists four albums, eleven songs and two bands called Brave New World.

This Maiden album dates from 2000, but is as much Iron Maiden as their albums from the 80s. Mostly, this is likely because, with this album, lead singer Bruce Dickinson returned to do vocals.
